Sony in talks with Google to ship Chrome with its new Vaio PCs
In what would be a landmark deal if it comes through, future Sony Vaio systems might come with Google's Chrome Browser preinstalled.
Traditionally, Microsoft has being shipping Internet Explorer with its Operating Systems
- a practice that enabled it to garner a lion's share of the browser market. While the trend continues until this day, the European Commission is currently in discussion with Microsoft regarding this rather unfair practice. But with Windows 7 on the anvil, users would get a choice to install a browser of their choice on purchase of a new system.
However, in case of OEM systems, the choice of browsers provided to the customer is decided by the manufacturer, and most OEM's would think they would be better off not risking their relationship with Microsoft. However, Sony seems to be least bothered about such a scenario and is reportedly in talks with Google to ship Chrome with its new Vaio PCs. The deal, which is currently "experimental" in nature, might just fall in place and we'll see Chrome installed on a Vaio system instead of Internet Explorer!
With this move, the traditional invincibility of Internet Explorer stands challenged and exposed. With most other browsers being touted as faster, slicker and more user friendly than IE, Microsoft would have a tough time fending this challenge off, unless of course we have a revolutionary product from them soon.
